Winter Wonderland

These images were taken on 2/19/11. They are both views of the Seneca Meadows landfill from Route 414. The contrast of the photos is not too great because of the snow, but hopefully these can help people to see how large the dump really is. The first photo shows one of the two "mountains." this one, I believe, has already been capped. The second photo is of another "mountain in progress." It has been said that when Seneca Meadows has finished with the land and closes operations in Waterloo, whenever that happens, that this will become something of a ski resort. That is one of those things people like to say when they want to make themselves feel better about the Landfill's presence. Seeing the Landfill all covered with snow reminded me of that rumor, and made me laugh. Thinking back to Royte's Garbage Land, and her description of people causing explosions after lighting a cigarette on a methane infested golf course that was once a landfill, I can't say I would ever like to ski Mt. Trashmore.
