Oceanside/Town of Hempstead Dump

I live in Rockville Centre, NY and the next town over, Oceanside, has a dump in it that is now in the process of recovering natural gas from the decomposing garbage. I used to work at a clam bar that is located right next to the dump (and no, the clams were not taken from the water next to the dump) but I do know for a fact that the water around the dump and the power plant connected to it has unusually warm water all year round.

  1. The waters around that area are indeed warm, but it has nothing to do with the landfill. The nearby E. F. Barratt power station uses estuary water as a heat sink for its cooling, as is common to many power stations in the area located on bodies of water.
