Fast Food Waste

This past weekend I went home to spend time with my family. On Sunday afternoon it was convenient for us to get fast food for lunch so we bought two meals from McDonald's and two meals from Subway. When we finished our meals I noticed the accumulation of napkins, cardboard boxes, and paper bags, cups, and wrappers that were needed in order to provide us with our meals. All of this "trash" is shown in the first picture I took in Canandaigua, NY, which I was not too proud of. All of these materials that should be recycled were going to be put right in a trash can, which is represented in my second picture. For the typical American it is more convenient to eat a fast food meal and then immediately discard it into a garbage can, which is then brought to a landfill. It was unclear on the bottom of these specific wrappers or cups if they could even be recycled but a majority of the time that is not on our minds as we are throwing away the McDonald's wrappers. Our lifestyles that are all about convenience really do have an influence on the amount of waste we produce.
